Lowrance HDS GEN 2
The new Lowrance HDS Gen 2 is the next generation of HDS GPs chart plotter sounders. Here i take it for a spin around my home waters at Port Nelson. Most videos are filmed in fresh water, this is all filmed in salt water. I use the HDS unit along with Structure Scan, Side Scan Sonar function for most of my fishing and have found it second to none for targeting those big fish.

How to use a fish finder and GPS, Lowrance and Furuno when fishing!!
http://www.reefari.com This Video on how you use your fish finder and GPS shows how to use them together and sound out a new area. I’m using a Lowrance fish finder and Furuno GPS. Try and buy the best gear you can afford, as you will get better results. Also a bigger screen makes for easier use. I like to use two separate stand alone units. I beleve this is easier to work with and gives a bigger better view of your GPS And fish finder.
We had perfect conditions in this video which makes it alot easier to sound around a new area, and search the structure and find out where the fish are located. I work the area in a circular motion as per the GPS, and watching the depth sounder closely you can see changes in the bottome and where the fish are located. I love the old Lowrance 7500C as it has Icons which are great for marking where the fish are or structure is. I’ll even map out where a big bommie or rock is, which makes it easy to drift the mark or anchor on the waypoint perfectly. Unfortunately I don’t think the new Lowrance GPS Plotters have Icons anymore? A real shame, heaps of waypoints, but the Icons were an awesome feature.
I have a Furuno FCV 585 sounder with a 1 Kw transducer. Great for fishing in really deep water, although we usually fish in about 50 metres to 70 metres at the most. Play with your settings and find what you like best. I like a manual gain of 4.7, but once again this will depend on your boat and how your transducer is set up. Mine is through hull in a wetbox.
Don’t be afraid to sound around an area and find where the fish are holding, then you can set your drift up to work where the fish are for best results.

Cheers Greg
