Lure challenge Xrap Magnum 20 V Rapala CD18 V JP Mungo Firestick

http://www.reefari.com This Lure Challenge puts three favourite lures up against each other to see what the best lure is. An interesting lure test with the Xrap Magnum 20 winning on the day, and also lost in battle in the end. These lures have been a great performer and also the Magnum Xrap 30 is a definate must have in your tackle box, and that good I would always have one in your lure spread. The amount of trips I’ve been on, and they been the gun lure, catching about twice the fish, per lure when compared to other lures. Other awesome lures are the Halco lazer pro, and RMG Scorpions.
They have great appeal and will catch fish of all species, from Mackerel to Coral trout and everything found amongst the Great barrier reef and edges. We also ran a Rapala CD18, one of the original famous Mackerel lures, and JP Mungo firestick deep divers, another awesome lure. Bit early in the mackerel season but knowing a few had been caught we thought we go for a quick troll around the nearby Keswick and St Bee Islands. First up a 17 Kg Spanish Mackerel fell to the Xrap Magnum 20 lure and we were pretty impressed. Bit more trolling and trying the local hot spots, ended up back at Singapore rock at the end of the day. Check the video out, but must have had a small mackerel on, which in turn got belted by a shark, ending up in alot of grief and hurt for me. I did the sensible thing and handed the rod over to Jason, as I am still recovering from a Spinal fusion operation. Long story short, the Shark won it’s freedom after a tense tug of war with Jason, And of course one less Magnum Xrap lure, and all on it’s first swim. Please keep an eye out for whaler shark around Singapore Rock!!

Awesome reef Jigging!! Great Barrier Reef!!

Another top day out on the water, and some excellant jigging the deep reefs of Mackay out in the Shipping Channel. This is only part of a great day’s fishing, but well worth checking out the great success on jigs. We had a good trolling session and landed several Spanish Mackerel on lures, but the boat traffic sent them deep, so knowing the fish were there, we got the knife jigs out, and proceeded to lose them, with no wire. We were seeing heaps of fish on the sounder down deep and decided to drop some jigs down. Well worth giving the jigs a go, you can see the fish are there but not biting on baits, it’s well worth giving Jigging a go. Bit of action on the jigs seems to get the fish biting, and quality ones at that. We did lose alot of jigs at the first spot to Spanish mackerel, so make sure you have a bit of wire, or wire assist hooks on your jigs. The berkley gulps are awesome plastics and love the 7 ” Jerk shads. We got some lovely Golden Trevally and a real nice estuary cod on the Them. I got busted up by a horse fish which smashed me about half way up, must have been a big golden trevally, just couldn’t stop him.
I’m becoming a big fan of jigging, so subscribe and I’m sure you’ll see alot more video’s on this,
Cheers Greg

Large Spanish Mackeral caught Game Fishing at the Reef

Large Spanish Mackeral (King Mackeral) caught whilst trolling wolf herring at Stevens Reef, off Mackay Game Fishing for Mackeral is a great way, trolling to cover a lot of ground and find the Fish!! Fishing with wolf herring, although a bit more work in presentation normally results in better quality Fish, with Mackeral up to 30 kilos regularly caught. Hope you like some of our original footage in my 25foot Corsair before starting our charter business, Great fun and fishing, and where it all started from.

Rapala X Rap Magnum 30, Best fishing lure!!

http://www.reefari.com The Rapala X Rap Magnum 30 would have to be one of the best lures ever, Definately the 20 and 30 would be one of my favourites. Always have one of these lures in your trolling Spread. The amount of fish I’ve caught trolling on the Reef is Phenomenal on these lures, and they will outfish other lures up to three to one for some reason. Just a great action and also good quality construction and hooks. Just a great lure and I can’t rave on enough about these. The only negative is the $30 pricetag in Australia, Why so much? when there half the price overseas, and alot of other lures are only $20? Who knows but they do work. In this video is the Red/White combo, great colour and great for Spanish, and always pays to run this colour combo as well, even if another lure brand. I’m also very keen on Halco lazer pros, also another top lure. More videos coming with this one in Action.

The Rapala Magnum Xrap comes in 20 & 30 for various depths, with the 30 lure slightly larger and diving up to 30 feet. Make sure you keep an eye on the sounder when trolling to prevent losing your lure in the coral. But if close to the bottom, the odd bonus is Coral trout will also come up and smash a lure, and that’s always a great bonus for the table. Look for a reef with a deep defined edge, this holds the bait up along the edge and less places for the bait to hold. Look for bait and lots of fish life, birds, and the bigger predatory Trevally, Tuna and Mackerel won’t be far away.

My alltime favourite lures!!!

http://www.reefari.com
Who say’s you can’t have enough lures, and here’s a few of my alltime Favourites. Just getting ready for our Hardline Reefari Charter and it pays to have a good lure selection with plenty of trolling for Spanish Mackerel, and even yellowfin tuna. Poppers are great for fishing for Giant Trevally along the reef edges, and don’t forget the soft plastics, great for coral trout in the shallows, or jigging in the deep water.
Now after 20 years of fishing the reef, these are the best proven fishtakers of the reef, and will outfish all other lures guaranteed. These are now the only ones I buy, no freebies here unfortunately, Make sure you have a selection of these lures in your tackle box. I didn’t have any X-rap Magnums 30’s but a top lure, the only negative is the $30 price tag, but they do catch fish, so make sure you have somme of these too. The extra depth is well worth it as well, especially when the mackerel are down deeper.
