GT Fishing Video, How to catch Big Fish!! Small Boats!!

http://www.reefari.com Awesome GT fishing video with some great action, Big fish small boats shows what is possible if you pick the weather and have the right fishing gear. This was a Big Giant Trevally also known as GT for short caught around the islands off Mackay on a big Rover 230 Stickbait. We worked quite a few spots, rocks, points and reefs before hooking this Monster GT, He went 1.20 metres and a solid 25 Kg plus. These GT’s are tough and what a workout on 80lb braid, even towed the boat a considerable distance from where we hooked up. The Reel is a new Brawn Tuff tackle 8000GT combo and comes highly recommended, We’ve caught some monster GT’s on this setup and has performed faultlessly and a 22 Kg Spanish Mackerel, Big fish and show’s what’s possible. We also running Crazy tails twisted leaders 150lb which are proving excellant and a failsafe connection with a double and splitring to your poppers or stickbait. I’ll always run this combo now for GT’s and is well worth investing in top quality heavy duty leaders for GT’ss and helps put the advantage in your court.
It’s not the size of your boat stopping you catch big fish. Graham took us for a run in his 4.85m Streaker fibreglass boat with 60 Hp Yamaha, an excellant sportsfishing set up and great riding boat considering it’s size. The Fuel economy just amazing for a top day out 30 nautical miles out, only 60 litres. What a day and a Big GT just made the day.
Make sure you release your GT’s, too good to catch once and not the best eating, Go and chase some reef fish after a feed, but for sport, They’d be one of the toughest fish in the ocean.

Big Giant Trevally on New Tuff Tackle 8000GT Brawn, Crazy Tail Twisted Leaders!!

http://www.reefari.com A big GT (Giant Trevally) to Darryl on our way home on our Recent Mothershipping charter with Centurion in this fishing video. An awesome GT, approx 25 kg’s and 1.15 metres in length which was caught on a new Brawn Tuff tackle 8000GT Rod/Reel Combo, with 80lb Braid, a 150lb Crazy tail twisted leader, and a River 2 Sea, Rover 230 stickbait. An excellant GT combo which I swear by and have caught some excellant fish on. This Stickbait is an old favourite now with barely and paint left on it, and will be a sad day when I lose this Stickbait. It pays to try something different and on a slow day around the islands with no luck trolling lures we decided to work some poppers and stickbaits and caught this big GT. Show it pays to spice things up.
GT fishing becomes addictive and the results are worth all the hard work, it was also quite rough in the background which makes the catch even more special. This Big GT was quickly photographed and released well. Please release all GT’s as they’re not great for eating and too good to catch only once. Mackay islands and reefs have a healthy population of GT’s and well worth a go. Check out the new Tuff Tackle Brawn 8000 GT reel, unreel bit of gear and I highly recommend one, We caught some great fish on these reels and the older Diablo series, but these new Brawns look and feel even better.

Giant Trevally Fishing with River 2 Sea Dumbell Popper 200

http://www.reefari.com Steve does battle with a nice Giant Trevally caught on a River 2 Sea Dumbell Popper on our recent mothershipping Charter to the great Barrier Reef from Mackay, Queensland. This was a great GT pushing 20 Kilo’s landed on 80lb Braid and a Tuff tackle Diablo 1000 spinning reel, and gave him a good workout. Giant Trevally are the Bulldozers of the Reef and takes some serious tackle to stop them.
The River 2 Sea dumbell poppers are a great lure, and perfect for targeting Giant trevally, with a great surface action which suit the surface feeding nature of GT’s. When working your popper, you want a nice regular bloop bloop action with plenty of noise and splash to help attract and stir the GT up in a freeding fenzy. The Surface strikes are spectacular and that’s what keeps you coming back for more. Sensational stuff.
The River 2 Sea company has a great range of Stickbaits and poppers, with the Dumbell 200 claiming to be the king of poppers, the dumbell 200 is the largest in the range of surface bloopers and a weight of 110gms, fish with one and you will know why. Weighted with casting distance in mind, the popper is constructed with hard wood, achieving excellent buoyancy and as a big fish popper it is fitted with VMC trebles and extra heavy duty split rings. Wood poppers can handle the Abuse of Big GT strikes and don’t crack/fill with water like some plastic poppers. Plus always great to see the teethmarks and show the battle scars after a few giant Ulua battles. The lure sits vertically in the water and with a slight flick of the rod tip, the popper moves forward allowing its huge concaved head to spray a large volume of water forward resulting in a very loud bloop noise. Keep it up as also is great for a wide range of species including all of the trevally species and others such as Queenfish, Dolphin Fish, and even coral trout and mackerel. They also come in a smaller 110mm and 150m size, depending on the size of the Ulua you’re chasing. Great quality popper and well worth having in your tackle box.
Other River 2 Sea stickbaits and poppers worth having a look at are the Rover 230, Bubble Pop 130 and Bubble Walker. They also a doggie stickbait, which would also be great for Giant trevally.

Jigging & Popping Andaman Islands 2011

The Andaman Islands in India is our first adventure fishing the big blue ocean. A great first trip with www.gamefishingindia.com learning new techniques such as jigging and popping.Targeting Giant Trevallys, Dogtooth tuna and a host of other species. An unseasonal tropical storm limited the popper fishing time targeting the jumbo GT’s in the 25-40kg bracket, but we will be back in 2012 for round two !
